Shop Update & Temporary Hiatus Notice
Tanake (hello) my friends,
Thank y'all so much for being here and supporting my little bookshop.
Due to multiple family health emergencies and the need to tend to my own mental health during this especially difficult season, Paperbacks & Frybread Co. will be on a short processing hiatus through January 5th.
Here’s what to expect during this time:
-Orders placed on or before December 15th will continue to be processed as planned.
-Apparel, totes, hats, and digital gift cards will continue to be processed as orders come in.
-All other physical book orders placed after December 15th will begin processing when the shop reopens on January 5th.
I know this may be inconvenient, and I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. This shop is run by a disabled, one-person bookseller, a full-time student, and a parent to six kids, and this holiday season has been the hardest I’ve faced in my five years of owning this business. Stepping back briefly is necessary so I can return in January able to show up far better in all my roles.
Your continued support—whether through orders, kind messages, or simply staying with me during this pause—means more than I can ever express. Thank you for being part of this community.
Hawuh'tcure (thank you),
Dominique
Stories on Wheels. Power in Community.
We’re launching North Carolina’s first Indigenous-owned mobile bookstore — and we need your help to hit the road.
Our bookmobile will bring Indigenous stories, diverse books, and inclusive education tools to powwows, schools, and underserved areas across the state. But we’re not doing it alone — we’re hoping to also build a circular economy by partnering with other businesses owned by Black, Brown, Indigenous, disabled, LGBTQ+, and other marginalized creators along the way.
Your support fuels more than a bookstore — it powers a movement.
Fight Erasure: Build a Library of Resistance
In a time when history and culture are under attack, access to diverse stories is more vital than ever.
Our Living Banned & Challenged Books List is a curated, evolving collection of essential reads—from children’s picture books to adult fiction and non-fiction—that have been targeted for their truth and representation. This resource empowers you to build a decolonized bookshelf and stand against censorship.
Offered on a “pay what you can” basis, this project ensures everyone can access these critical works while supporting the labor behind it. Together, let’s protect knowledge, amplify silenced voices, and preserve our shared humanity.
We now offer audiobooks INTERNATIONALLY!

Behind the Shop
Hey y'all!
My name is Dominique and I'm the book-obsessed owner of Paperbacks & Frybread Co. I'm proudly repping the Lumbee Tribe while juggling roles as a wife, homeschooling mama of 6, business owner, writer, and artist.
This shop was birthed from my love of of the written word combined with my passion to get back home to my roots.
Embracing my cultural identity gave me a sense of community, and that's what I wanna pass on to you. A community centered around nerdy goodness, the written word, and appreciation for all.
If you've read this far, we should be friends. Come over to my Instagram and let me know you came from the shop!
XOXO, Dominique
